Bad news: I tried changing all possible options (output driver, output channels) it still doesn't work. Seems like I'm not the only one having problem with ffdca (8193 6-channel). http://superuser.com/questions/114365-/mplayer-no-sound-when-playing-some-m-ovies even Linux users are having the same problem, apparently (I heard Windows version is just the cross-compiled version?). I tried to play the video in Windows Media Player and the sound came out fine. Only two videos have this issue anyway, I guess I'll just have to bear with it until MPlayer team decides to do something
Thanks Mulder

Wow! You even reply quicker than the customer service from paid software! Thanks again! You're a good man (hugs)
I can't use GL of any kind..MPlayer only works in directx or direct3d mode. I'm using ATI Radeon Xpress 200..it's an onboard VGA (shame on me), so I can understand if many things won't work :P
Whoops. Seems like I made a mistake. I tried various video files; it turned out that the "8193" audio thing is not the cause. Here's what I meant (8192, 8193), and both works:

http://img688.yfrog.-com/img688/8265/81932.png
But this one doesn't work:

It seems that I can't play any file that has 6 ch audio. Is my hardware to blame?
Comment:
Not quite sure. Did you use AC3/DTS pass-through (hardware decoder)? If so, try to disable it. Software decoding (by MPlayer) should definitely work. Also, what number of output channels have you selected in SMPlayer options? Last but not least, you can try to change the output driver between "dsound" and "win32" for test.

Oops. Sorry I didn't read previous entries. Yes the MPlayer can run using direct3d renderer without disabling aero, but sometimes it makes the video being played doesn't show the correct color (half of the screen having a yellowish tint or so), so most of the time I use directx.
Comment:
This is NOT a limitation of MPlayer, but a limitation of the Windows operating system: The "Aero Glass" composition engine cannot work with Overlays, so if you try to use the Overlay renderer with any software (not only MPlayer!), then Aero Glass will be temporarily disabled. Use MPlayer's OpenGL renderer instead of the Overlay renderer and Aero Glass won't be disabled. The Direct3D renderer works as well, but is more "experimental" than the GL renderer. Try "gl:yuv=2" or something like that...

Hi.
It seems your pack hasn't support 8193 audio format yet, which is more common lately. I searched the Internet - "installing AC3 filter should fix the problem", but not for me. MPlayer seems to not recognize it. Is there any way I can do to "add" the codec to MPlayer manually?
Second, when I play a video, my Win 7 always revert back to basic mode, and there's a popup says that the player doesn't support Aero. Is this a problem of MPlayer? But if I don't play anything, the MPlayer itself can standby in Aero view, so I thought this probably the codec problem too.
Thanks. I've been using your pack and MPlayer for years, and this is the 1st time I have problem. Sorry I didn't ask in the forum; it seems you're not there lately.
Comment:
MPlayer is NOT based on the DirectShow Framework. Therefore it neither requires nor is able to use any DiretShow filters (e.g. AC3Filter), for obvious reasons. Furthermore the decoders for all the supported audio/video formats are "built-in" (with a small number of exceptions). That means MPlayer supports all the commonly used audio/video formats "out of the box" without any addition software! AC3 is one of the supported audio formats, of course. Don't know what "8193 audio format" is supposed to mean though...

Strange problem with MPUI: Installed on two different PCs. One has the buttons on the playlist screen, the second does not, and the scroll bars overlap in an unfriendly manner.
Good PC - white box running XP SP3 on Pentium Dual E2200 @ 2.2GHz, 3GB RAM.
Bad PC - Dell Dimension running XP SP3 on Pentium 4, 2.66 GHz, 2GB RAM.
At some point, Bad PC was running MPUI fine, but during some upgrade (unknown since after building the whitebox, I ran most stuff on it) the playlist screen went bonkers as described.
Kindly appreciate any direction to improve MPUI playlist, as I prefer the simple interface over SMPlayer.

A screenshot might help to illustrate your problem. You could also try to disable visual themes under "compatibility".
